The charming and exclusive resort of Whale Island is a retreat not oft’ found in Viet Nam. Nestled in a spaghetti bowl of sprits and Island’s around Van Phong Bay this retreat offers travellers the rare experience of absolute peace and quiet, nature in extremis and an aquatic heaven.
In the 1930’s the famous Jacques Cousteau spent time in the main land port of Dam Mon working as an Ocean Cartographer and discovered a passion for the under water realm by following the local fishermen on outings.
Many decades later the inimitable Michele and Lam–Phuong made an over night stop for a camping trip while travelling the country. It touched their souls in such a special way they dedicated themselves to fashioning a unique and simple, yet divinely rustic resort that sits comfortably on the landscape like a well tailored robe.
It now boasts a haven of 23 Bamboo bungalows echoing the crescent beach line with sea and Garden views. At the east end you will relax in the Ocean View Bar/restaurant and feel the stresses and strains filter from your system. The atmosphere is truly melow and sublime. The Island serves full board, 3 meals a day varied with the local fisherman catch of the evening. A fulsome blend of Vietnamese and French cuisine featuring fresh salads, fish, and fruit. And one of the best bakers in the country – bread heaven.
By day you can simply relax with a book, lounge on the white sands, snorkel the bay, rent a canoe/kayak/catamaran and explore the shoreline – or trek into the hills for amazing 360 degree views of Van Phong Bay. As a photographer/nature lover, sunseeker or diver: Whale Island delivers without prejudice.
You rent the bungalows by the night, the food is full board per person and transfers are organised from the Rainbow Bar in Nha Trang or the Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) Airport. Stop, breathe and enjoy the Whale Island Viet Nam.
