Are you thinking about trying diving during your trip to Vietnam? Are you confused by the different terminology and names for different beginner programs? Are trying to decide which program is best for you?
We understand that when you research a new activity it can be a daunting experience trying to choose an operator who is safe and reliable and who will offer you the best option to suit your needs. Here at Rainbow Divers we listen to what you want, how much time you have available, your budget and then we recommend the best program for YOU.
You may have heard or read about “Try Dives” but the definition of what a try dive is can vary enormously from dive company to dive company. Some try dives will involved being put straight into the ocean with little or no training and being towed around by an instructor for fifteen minutes with no opportunity to stop and look at marine life, little consideration for safety and no opportunity to ask questions.
At Rainbow Divers we believe in providing quality experiences and that’s why we affiliate ourselves with PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors) who are the largest SCUBA diving training organisation in the world and who provide strict guidelines and regulations to ensure your safety.
The first level of PADI programs is called a Discover Scuba Diving experience and is often referred to as a “DSD” or a “DSD Try Dive”. This is a PADI “experience” rather than a course which means it gives you the opportunity to try diving and to explore underwater but it does not give you a diving qualification upon completion. When you see or read “PADI DSD Try Dive” you can rest assured that you will be getting value for money, a better quality experience and your safety and comfort will be priority.
Rainbow Divers’ Instructors are all PADI certified and we follow PADI standards precisely to ensure that you have a rewarding and enjoyable experience, take home memories that will last a lifetime and you’ll want to know when you can do your next dive!
You’ll start by running through some general theory with your instructor, who will also answer any questions you have. The second stage of the experience is to start in very shallow water (either in a swimming pool or just off the beach depending on your chosen location) and give you the opportunity to practice some basic skills and techniques to get comfortable with the equipment and breathing underwater. Only when you feel ready will we progress to “open water” where you’ll have the chance to witness some of Vietnam’s amazing marine life. Your instructor will be by your side every step of the way to look after and support you. You’ll be able explore to a maximum depth of 12 meters but if you’d prefer to stay shallower that is perfectly okay – your comfort level is our primary concern.
One of the biggest advantages of taking a Discover Scuba Diving experience is that it allows you to dive and to see if you like it prior to committing to a PADI certification course. This is why we recommend this experience to anyone who is unsure whether they want to dive or not.
At Rainbow Divers we understand that by taking the Discover Scuba Diving program you are taking the first steps toward becoming a diver and we’ll give you the best possible training to maximise your experience. It is because of our commitment to our students and to ensuring that every program is carried out with a student-centric focus that the majority of our Discover Scuba Diving participants complete their first dive and immediately want to do more! You’ll never feel rushed or like part of a conveyor belt system, you’ll be looked after from start to finish.
If you decide to move on it’s easy for us to upgrade your Discover Scuba Diving program to the full PADI Open Water Course which gives you a lifelong diving certification, allowing you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
During your PADI Open Water Course you’ll experience the same Rainbow divers commitment to you and your enjoyment and safety, which makes us Vietnam’s leading Dive Center.
