• Phu Quoc Dive Centre

Diving and snorkeling around the warm waters of Phu Quoc takes place on the North-Western side of the island or around the small archipelago to the South. Phu Quoc is a real get away from the crowds and noise of mainland Vietnam. This relatively undiscovered part of the country is fast becoming a hot-spot for tourism.

Diving is only really acceptable between October-April. The best location for diving truly depends on the prevailing winds, which unfortunately can change quickly, so our expert local knowledge is somewhat essential! Due to the Islands proximity to the Mekong delta region visibility is rarely as clear as found in high season in Nha Trang + Whale Island. However the nutritious run off from the Mekong and the constantly warm water temperatures give Phu Quoc some excellent hard coral growth.

Phu Quoc Information

Off the Cambodian Coastline, in the Gulf of Thailand lies the Vietnamese Island retreat of Phu Quoc” – an easy quote for an easy destination. This Island has the “leg up “ advantage of a reverse dry season to the rest of Vietnam’s coastal retreats. The great weather and water conditions can be harnessed from October through until late April. The Island has limited capacity and is VERY popular during the Christmas/New Year and Tet holidays so its essential to BOOK EARLY for accommodation and flights.

The Diving here is easy + safe!

Phu Quoc holds peace and quiet in abundance and the whole point of being here is to relax and take it easy. As such activities here are limited. However, after much head scratching and selecting, here are our thought’s on the best things to do on the island.

Sao Beach/Kem Beach – Perhaps one of the best stretches of beach in all of South East-Asia. White soft sand and crystal marine water. Sao Beach has a couple of restaurants equipped with numerous hammocks where you can chill the day away. Sao Beach is the tourist choice for beaches, however if you’re brave and don’t get caught by the military try to get to Kem Beach, the same only better!

Waterfalls – When it’s hot and the sand is burning your feet then head to the falls. These do tend to run seasonally, so don’t expect more than a trickle during the dry season, but bordering the wet season (before or after) they can be come torrents and well worth a little paddle
Ganesh Indian Restaurant – Indian food at its best! Pepper’s Pizza - Excellent Pizza! Mondo’s – Great western Food + Drinks Drunk'n Monkey Bar - A large screen shows Football from all around the world, along with a fine selection of music until the early hours, it's one of Phu Quoc's only bars and defiantly the best! Buddy Ice Cream – A great little cafe with top ice cream, great service, and good advice on things to do around the island. Home Sweet Home - A superb place to eat; One of the best burgers in Phu Quoc, and don't forget to try the chocolate cake! Night Market Food – Cheap, clean, and very Vietnamese.
There are now many hotels and resorts on Phu Quoc, some fairly close to the Airport in Duong Dong and some further away in the far South or North of the island. Most offer clean and safe accommodation at reasonable prices. Below is a list of places we recommend. All bookings can be made directly with the hotels or we can help. Make sure you book accommodation and flights very early over Christmas and New Year to avoid disappointment.

If you book Diving thru your Hotel, please ensure you insist on Rainbow Divers. Some of the Hotel staff receive commissions from other divecentres to ‘divert’ your booking. If in doubt, contact us directly!
- AIR: Vietnam Airlines and Mekong Air service Phu Quoc. ATR72 planes leave from Ho Chi Minh City (55 mins) & Rach Gia (40 minutes). - SEA: Public boats leave the mainland from Rach Gia (2 hours) and Ha Tien (4 hours).
Trips run on the morning to avoid the typically rougher seas in the afternoon. The day starts with hotel + divecentre pick-ups between 7-7.15am.. After pick-up you will be transferred to the harbour in Duong Dong. Please ensure you order a Take Away breakfast from your Hotel the night before.

Journey time to Northern dive sites takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, to the South journeys take around 2 hours 30 minutes. On board you will receive a boat briefing introducing you to your PADI Professional for the day and they in turn will give you full equipment and dive or snorkel briefings for the sites we will visit.

Once at the dive site we will gear up for your in-water adventure; be it diving, snorkelling, or participating in any one of the PADI courses we have available through our 5 Star IDC Centre.

During your surface intervals we will move the boat to another location. During this time you can relax on the sun deck, help yourself to drinking water and/or some exotic freshly prepared fruit. During your break your equipment will be readied for your next dive by your guide. After your break jump back in to the warm waters around Phu Quoc for another adventure.

After diving/snorkelling to the South, we serve a freshly prepared hot cooked Vietnamese lunch on the boat during your return journey. We typically return to harbour at approximately 1pm from the North or 5:00pm from the South. On the return journey your Divemaster or Instructor will help you to fill in your log books along with going through our on board FISH ID books. Once we have arrived back at the harbour you will be transferred back to the Divecentre.
